【摘要】:Poly(vinylchloride)compositionsdegradebydiscolorationonprolongedexposuretoheat.Thedegreeofdiscolorationisrelatedtotheconditionofexposure,suchaslengthofperiodandtemperature.Whentheconditionsofexposurearefixedandcontrolled,thentherelativeresistancetodiscolorationduetoheatoftwoormorecompositionsisabletobedetermined.Theprecisionofheatstabilitytestingisalsodependentonthethicknessofthespecimensandthehistoryofheatexposurepriortotesting.Thispracticeallowsforcontrolorthereportingofthesevariables.Thispracticeisparticularlyapplicablefordetermininggrossdifferencesintheheatstabilitiesofpoly(vinylchloride)compositionsthataredetectableasacolorchange.Itisnotintendedtomeasureabsolutethermalstability.Althoughtheobservedcolorchangesmaybeevidenceofdegradation,moleculardegradationphenomenasuchaschain-scissionorcross-linkingmaynotbeidentifiable.Note28212;Whilediscolorationcausedbyexposuretoelevatedtemperatureiscommonlyregardedasevidenceofdegradationinpoly(vinylchloride)compositions,itmustbeborneinmindthatsomevinylcompositionsmayundergosubstantialchangeincolorwithoutappreciablelossofmechanicalstrength,chemicalresistance,etc.,whereasothersmayresistchangeincoloryetundergosubstantialchangeinotherproperties.Therefore,resistancetodiscolorationshouldnotbetakenassoleevidenceofthermalstability.Itisrecommendedthatthistestbesupplementedbyotherssuchastensilestrengthandelongation,impactstrength,anddeflectiontemperatureunderload(forrigidcompositions),Durometerhardness(fornonrigidcompositions),anddilutesolutionviscosity,andthatthetestresultsbeforeandafterovenexposurebecomparedtodeterminethedegreeofdegradationwhichhasbeenproducedineachofthepropertiesmeasured.Thispracticeisabletopredicttherelativediscolorationinprocessing,providedthatthecompositionsinquestionaretestedattherelativemaximumtemperaturesdevelopedinprocessing.Thispracticeisnotapplicabletomaterialsthatwillcross-contaminateduringovenexposure.1.1Thispracticelistsproceduresfordeterminingtherelativethermalstabilityofsheetormoldedpoly(vinylchloride)compoundsasindicatedbydiscolorationduetoexposuretoanelevatedtemperatureatcontrolledovenconditions.1.2Aspecimenpreparationtechniqueusingatwo-rollmillisprovidedforcompositionsthatarenotinmoldedorsheetedform.1.3Thispracticeisnotintendedforuseinpurchasingspecificationsbecausetheconditionsofprocessingplasticcompoundsvarywidely,andthedegreeofcorrelationofdataobtainedbythispracticetoprocessexposurehasnotbeendetermined.However,despitethislimitation,thispracticedoesyielddataofvalueinjudgingthecomparativeservicequalityofpoly(vinylchloride)compositions.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesinparenthesesaregivenforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Note18212;Thisstandardissimilarincontent,butnottechnicallyequivalenttoISO305x2013;1990.
